The SMME Support Programme (funds permitting) aims to provide deserving SMME’s, who are otherwise unable to attend the conference due to financial constraints, the opportunity to attend the conference.

The following funding opportunities are available for SMME’s:

  • Conference registration to attend talks covered by programme,
  • Conference registration attend talks and local travel costs covered by programme,
  • Conference registration attend talks attend talks and international travel costs covered by programme,
  • Exhibition kiosk to promote products and services, no access to talks, covered by programme,
  • Exhibition kiosk to promote products and services, no access to talks, and local travel costs covered by programme.
  • Exhibition kiosk to promote products and services, no access to talks, and international travel costs covered by programme.

It should be noted, that due to the limited funding that is available, the opportunities for support of applications which include travel costs are extremely limited. It is therefore advisable to obtain funding for attendance from other funding sources where these are available.

Eligibility

All applicants shall:

  • Be unable to attend without this funding due to financial constraints,
  • Be categorised as a small enterprise which has a turnover of less than R5 000 000 per annum and been in existence for more than 12 months
  • Show a genuine interest in waste management and be working in a field that is related to waste management,
  • Be fluent in English, and
  • Be prepared to participate in the conference activities and networking events.

Components of the Award

The SMME Support Programme provides individual funding awards (funds permitting) for each of the six categories to enable these SMME to join the conference. The number of awards granted by ISWA2024 will depend on the quality of the applications and the total budget available. The amount of each individual award is at the discretion of ISWA 2024 LOC.

Elements of the Application

The complete application package consists of:

Online Application

The online application is to be completed by the applicant.

Note: the applicant must have all of the above documents ready to upload before starting the application process. A portrait photograph is also required for the online application process.

Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

SMME’s Motivation

A description of why the applicant should receive the award and what they aim to gain from attending the conference (limited to 300 words).

Reference Letter of Support

A signed letter of support from a client describing why they believe that their supplier should receive the award.

Proof of Company Registration

An official letter of registration from CIPC or Certified Letter of registration from a National Company Registrar.

Management Accounts

Current set of Management Accounts covering last 6 months

Letter of Good Standing

An official letter from your Bank of Good standing

Evaluation of Applications

The review panel will comprise representatives from the SMME Committee of the Local Organising Committee for ISWA 2024. The review panel will evaluate all applications according to a predefined rubric based on the information included in the following documents:

  • SMME’s Motivation,
  • Reference Letter,
  • Proof of Company registration,
  • Management accounts, and
  • Letter of Good Standing with Bank

Post-Conference Report

The SMME must provide a short (min 2 page) report describing their attendance at the conference within one month of the end of the conference. Reports will describe the SMME’s experience at the conference and will include aspects such as sessions attended, learnings from the conference, and networking opportunities that were possible. A template for the report will be provided to the SMME’s who are selected. An attendance certificate will be provided on submission of the report.
